Axion Hellas and the “Marianna V. Vardinoyannis Foundation” join forces to promote the “Tell the Truth to Power” Educational Program in schools located in the border areas of our country.
The cooperation agreement between the two institutions was signed by the Ambassador of the UNESCO, Mrs. Marianna V. Vardinoyannis and the Chairman of Axion Hellas, Mr. Vasileios Pateras, on November 6 at the Zappeion Megaron, in the presence of the Board of Directors of Axion Hellas, Prince Nicholas, members of the Board of Directors Axion Hellas, as well as founding members and volunteers of Axion Hellas, Mr. D. Samomlada, Kou Thi. Pitouli, Kas Phi Biniou, Kas I. Martinou, Kas M. Travlos and Kas I. Skeppes.
One of the main purposes of the “Marianna V. Vardinoyannis” Foundation is the protection of human rights, especially the child, while its main areas of action are education, the promotion of Peace Culture, the strengthening of dialogue, tolerance and understanding between different cultures and, more generally, raising public awareness of the protection of children from abuse and exploitation. In this context, the Foundation collaborates with the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Center to implement the “We Tell the Truth” Educational Program, which is a worldwide exclusivity of Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights and has already been taught to millions of students of all levels in Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America, showing them that they can make a difference in the world struggle for justice. The “Tell the Truth in Power” Educational Program is based on the book titled “We Say The Truth to Power: Defenders of Human Rights Changing Our World” by the international activist and award-winning writer Kerry Kennedy, President of “Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights “and daughter of the late Robert F. Kennedy.
As Mrs. Vardinoyannis said: “We are receiving many calls from all over Greece and we feel the need of teachers to follow the program from afar, as it is not easy for everyone to travel and participate in our seminars. Our Foundation is working on this issue to make educators all over Greece more easy and interactive. In this effort, Axion Hellas, an organization whose action reaches even the most remote island, comes as a great ally. Axion Hellas’s mission is to offer vulnerable population groups living in the most remote or border regions of island and continental Greece. Axion Hellas will integrate our program into our actions and, with the participation of volunteers, will transfer the program to the schools of the regions that each mission will include. ”
Mr. V. Pateras thanked Mrs. Vardinoyannis for the opportunity she gave to Axion Hellas to participate in the promotion of the “We Say the Truth to Power” Program, he added, among other things: “The transmission of values and rights is what most relevant at this time especially for our country, a country at the crossroads of peoples and cultures, which has always been a historical lighthouse of knowledge and education in times of crisis … Be sure that the children of Meganisi, Kalamos, Kastos, Schinoussa, Thirasia, Kasos and so many others of the islands and of the villages of Mainland Greece, will become members of this knowledge, hoping and expecting that they will also contribute to the future of a better society. ”
Then HRH Prince Nicholas, taking the floor, said among others: “After a unanimous decision of the Board of Directors of Axion Hellas, we offered to help spread the message” We Say the Truth to Power “to all the remote islands and the neighbouring societies we visit in multiple missions we make every year … There is no doubt that in the challenging world of the world, the message of this book on the importance of human rights seems more timely never before. And I think we will all agree that our children the new generation to which this program is addressed are the hope that today’s challenges will become the opportunities of tomorrow. “
